- Prices are quite closer...
- pixel count is closer too.
- Zoom favors Pro1 (despite the widely reported dust on lenses)
- Image quality????

So which one is the best upgrade for a G3 owner???? (I'm not considering a DSLR!).

Which one is "best" for you is very subjective and you'll probably hear a lot of different opinions. My opinion is that the G6 would be a better choice. I think Canon has done more to eliminate CA and fringing on the G6 than they did on the Pro-1. That's my primary concern with consumer digicams, and probably the only "deal breaking" difference between the two. While both cameras have pretty much the same features, the G6 is more like your old G3. I do like the focal length range on the Pro-1 better (28-200 vs. 34-140). And if you're one of those who just has to have a black bodied camera, well, you know what to do.

Another major difference that might be important for you - or not - is the electronic viewfinder on the Pro1.

I tried it once and am not so happy with it ... I personally prefer the 'old feel' of my G2, parallax distortion and everything.

Best regards,
Andy

The color is not an issue to me. Provide it does not look like a toy or a mobile phone.
The viewfinder became history to me, moving from SLR I loved the swivel LCD of the G3 and quickly became used to it. I only miss a TTL viewfinder when I use the polarizer filter.
Anyway, I would like to have the wider angle of the Pro1 in my hands, but all the reviews point so many issues with this camera that it does not seem a very good choice. The G6 however, seems to be a safe harbor for my bucks!!!!
In fact, I was expecting some satisfied Pro1 owners defending their machines, but I've hear there seem to be few of them.

Cannot comment on the G6, have not used one but I have owned a Pro1 and can say that although it has its limitations [low light focusing and focusing on objects in motion] when shooting something stationary the picture quality is nothing short of exceptional. The built in L lense really shines under these conditions.

if your gonna be shooting above 50 iso, go with the g6, if your gonna be shooting at 50 iso only, and could make use of the lens, go with the pro 1.

i would look into a use 300d though... its a much better investment

If the Pro 1 was image stabilized - I would say there is your new camera. With that not being the case - I think that the playing field is much more even. I would go with the G6............

All the previous posts kinda favour G6. And i am no different...

Just thought i would add a couple more advantages of G6 if u really care...

1. Light Weight:467gm compared to 640 gm of Pro1
2. Smaller Size:
105 x 73 x 73 mm compared to 118 x 72 x 90 mm of Pro1

Not that i care only about these. But its because most other features were discussed previously.
