Hi, I shoot some inline because my two teenage sons have been in it for years. You must have some great lighting in that arena to be able to shoot at those speeds and ISO. Nice shot. The 2 attached pics were shot in a terrible rink. Settings: ISO 3200; F2.2; SS; 500 with a Canon 85mm 1.8. Needless to say a bit of PP and noiseware.

EDIT: Forum rules allow a maximum of 2 attachments per thread... moderator.

Who do your sons play for?

My son plays for Black Ice 93's from NY, The Gladitiors 16,18u teams and Team Zero from Sportplex where we live.

Wally:

Have you used NR? There is a weird texture to the goalie that makes him look "painted" and just wondering if that is what's causing it. It is definitely the culprit in showguys 2 images (he admits it! :))

As a note, in-line I suspect is played in the same dark, dingy arenas that my kid plays ice hockey in, so you may want to boost ISO a little bit more as needed. Also, hockey is hockey and you may want to try a bit faster shutter speed (1/400 or higher) to really capture the action, freeze puck, etc.

I just shot my first weekend of inline hockey, as some of my league's better players started up a PIHA pro team. Like everywhere else I've played, it's a poorly-lit building, getting around 1/400, ISO 3200 and f/2.8.

Are you guys shooting through the glass, or from the penalty boxes, etc? I had a hard time with the penalty boxes, due to guys leaning out from the bench and cutting off even more of my angles. Any tips? :) Is there perhaps a good (and easy!) way to clean the glass beforehand? :)

Being a coach in the leauge I get to shoot games I am not coaching from the penalty box.

That wierd texture is the jersey it has dimples.
The only thing I did to the photo was resize it. I am aware that I should try to stop the action but this was for the goalie who wanted to see some blur in the puck , normally shoot at 250 , I don't like to push the ISO even thou I can with this camera. I will push it at the next game this weekend when the NAYRHL teams play.

At this rink I can shoot from the penalty box or from the bench, since I am the potog for thr PIHA Pro team The Feasterville Fury
