Any one here shoot wheelchair sports? I have been with a P&S, and this will be my first venture using my 40D.
If you have do you have any pointers for me except squatting or sitting to get better shots of the athletes?
Thanks

Hello. I shot a wheelchair basketball game (Special Olympics) earlier this year. I spent half the game under the hoop and in the corner and then spent half the game in the stands (close). The stands photos are every bit as good as the under the hoop photos (each spot just gives you a different look). I used a 85 1.8 and 135L on a 30D.
I really have no major pointers for you. For me, I tried to capture the same stuff I do in non-wheel-chair games. You know, driving layups, rebounding action, jumpers, etc. I don't think you'll have a problem of what to capture.
The place had the usual lousy indoor lighting and shutter speed is always a concern.
Good luck, have fun.

And....I am married to one in a wheelchair, and he acts just like you LOL.
We like the Veterans Wheelchair games, and while I have been shooting a lot with my ole hybrid, I have missed a lot of shots, got really poor shots, and now I was just wondering if there were any tips out there.

I have a gallery on my website of wheelchair rugby (murderball). The US Paralympic team had an exhibition at the Air Force Academy and after demonstrating the sport and having a short scrimmage they challenged the AFA rugby team to a match.
I shot from the first row of the bleachers. I like to shoot sports sitting down whenever I can. It has become my style and sets me apart from the PWC's. Other than that I try to get faces, ball, and/or action. It helps to be in a position where the action is coming toward you but you can get good shots from the sideline.

Thanks, the Vets play murdeball also, and it is just as vicious as the paraympic team, in fact, I think some play on it. Although with my hybrid, I got iffy pictures, I am hoping with a lot of practice, I can get better pictures. I will try to get to the local games here to get some practice in.
I shall go to your site and look. Thanks again.
