I have read of people writing their name on paper then scanning it into their computer and changing it around as needed. I am sure somebody else can explain on this more. Then some people use a Wacom tablet (http://www.wacom.com/index2.cfm)and write their name in with that.

There are probably some people that use fancy fonts. Now the font used will depend on your tastes.

If you want your real sig...

Scan it and bring into CS3
In the Edit menu choose Define Brush Preset
In the dialog box give it a name and save it.
It's now a selectable brush.

If your handwriting is terrible there are several free handwriting fonts available.

Funny how I found this thread.... not 10 minutes ago I made a new one. It will be just for forums. More of a watermark than sig.

I have over 700 fonts on my computer.... it took forever to pick one the first time. Now I just change them as I get bored with them. They are not a logo, so changing is not a problem. I get my fonts at www.acidfonts.com .

You can do as suggested above and make the sig a brush. I need to do that. I only went so far as to make it a layer I saved by it self and add it when done editing the photo.

In GIMP you just...
Open new....pick a size easy to work on. You will scale it later when you add it to the pic anyway
Ad text in whatever font you want.
add alpha
deleate background
save as a .png to preserve the transparency.

You will be able to color it and scale it however you want. Photo sop is just as easy im sure. Im just faster in GIMP as I have used it a lot longer. And As it is a .png you can use it in just about any editor.

Just copy the font's .ttf file to the window fonts directory WINDOWS\Fonts.
Open Photoshop and you can now select it as one of the fonts.

To install new fonts.... make a new folder on the desktop. put all your new fonts in it ( unzipped). Go to the windows folder, in it, is the fonts folder. open it. In one of the menus there will be a "add new font" option. Just navigate to the new folder and select all. after its done you can delete the folder on the desktop. When windows is restarted they will be ready for use in any program.

okay I put them into my font folder but when I open cs3 and use the text, I don't see the new fonts that installed. Am I doing something wrong?

make sure that that the fonts .ttf are in the \WINDOWS\Fonts and not in another directory inside the fonts folder.

You have to restart the computer after the fonts are installed. If they are not there they got put in the wrong place. Windows has tis own tutorial in the help section.

or read this....
http://www.myfonts.com/support/help_install_win.html

Almost any photo editor can put fonts on a pic. E6 being the newest , is actually quite good at inserting fonts. However if you are going to use it a lot...do as suggested above and create a brush out of it so it is very easily inserted at will.

i use my wacom tablet to draw a thin inline of my signature, and the pen tool (vector based) and sort of edit my own handwriting to look slightly more like caligraphy (some strokes are wider than others) and save that as a brush for later!

I can do it in Elements 2.0 so I feel quite sure you can in 6.0 and you do have a brush tool in the tool bar ( 2 of them should be there) see highlighted below.

Here is a some more help with the topic...came in helpful for me.
