I am in a holding pattern awaiting my 20D, whic I have prepaid for to go to the top of the waiting list (they tend to get delivered in lots of 2 only).
Now I need some new cards, as I want to keep my slow G3 card's with my G3.
To help me decide on card sizes, I need to know what are typical images sizes created by the 20D, has anyone got a rough idea, of both RAW and JPG (highest resolution need only apply!)
My files sizes typically vary quite a bit on my G3, larger files for higher ISO's due to the noise being percived by the JPEG algorythm as extra detail! (an ISO400 image can almost be twice the size of a ISO50 image!)

This might help you out (http://www.sandisk.com/retail/ultra2-cf.asp). Scroll down the charts at the bottom.

Thanks for that, it suggests the same zise for 4MP as my G3 does when I put in a blank card, must potential calculate the capacity the same way.
Do you know how these figures stack up in real life though on a 20D, I would be surprised if the compresses images are twice what a 4MP would be due to how the JPG algorythim works.

I shoot Raw, and I can get 100-110 shots on a 1GB card depending on the ISO.

Buy a fast 1GB card. Mine is an UltraII. I get over 70 RAW+large JPGs. If you need more than that, wait a few months, and the 2GB ones will be the same price as the smaller ones do today.
You should be able to find a fast 1GB card for about $90 today. It'll hold a ton of shots. I show well over 200 remaining JPGs on my card right now.

Steve's Digicams 20D review lists these file sizes:
# Large/Fine ~3.6MB (3504 x 2336)
# RAW .CR2 format ~8.7MB (3504 x 2336)
These numbers are a little on the high side, with maybe a 5-10% safety buffer.
I typically get around 300 large/fine JPEGs on a 1Gb card (give or take 30) and I've never filled a card with RAWs, but they typically average around 8Mb a piece.

I think they are about right, most of mine are around 8.7 but i've got some as high as 11.5mb and some as low as 5.6mb

Excellent! Thankyou guys, now to find the best deal on probably a pair of 512MB's or a pair of 1GB's.
