I know this would be better on a different day - like one with more leaves and clouds. Besides that, what do you think? I like the way the white house is offset by the huge mountain, the way the diagonals meet on the right (gotta do that better next time) and the green belt of pines in the foreground. Do you think this works? I'll go back another day for sure.

Comments appreciated.

I'm crap at landscapes so my advice is obviously like gold dust here.

The composition looks good to me but it looks like it could do with a nice Velvia action.
I tried it and it looks good

Scottes,

I agree with your comments. The composition works really well. It's a nice photo, but not expecially striking. I think if you had the same composition and different light it would be a great photo. It looks like you took this at midday and the light is a bit flat. Early morning or near sunset might work better. That's the problem with landscapes. Not only does the compostion have to work, you also have to hit the right time of day and the weather has to be right. It's about 10% skill and 10% persistance and 80% luck. You got the skill part down in this photo.

Maybe try cranking up the contrast and saturation in photoshop. That trick works for some of my midday landscape attempts. It also tends to make the picture look a bit fake. depends on your tastes.

Dave

Thanks guys. You're pretty much confirming what I thought - the color stinks, but the scene has hope. But it will go into my list of places to go in the future.

Do you have ND filters? It might help you with more satuated sky.

Same shot at dawn or sunset would be amazing ... in a sunny day, of course.

G'day Scottes!

I took the liberty to PS your photo a little. This is after about 10 mins of quick work on it. Not sure if you may find it better in terms of colour balance. But here it is anyway:

It may be possible to salvage it in PS after some work on it. You may still end up with a descent image out of it.

Thanks Flagpole.

I'm not so much looking to salvage this as plan another day, and trying to get comments of things to watch for. sGu's ND grad is a perfect suggestion since the front hill is almost straight.

Still trying to learn this landscape stuff.

I like the perspective, but would like it more without the green belt of pines in the foreground, which to me, partially grounds the image (brings it too close); without it, I think it would be a better vista.
