Does anyone know if a 580 EX II will still fire as a slave (without a RP) from another 580 that is fired from a RP receiver from a RP transceiver off an ST-E2? In other words, will Canon's IR system still work when some flashes have a RP and some are operated normally? Or is it all or nothing?
Thanks,
Dan

From what I read, the ST-E2(with the tx) will fire the slave out of sight with the receiver, and regular slave in sight without the receiver at the same time.
But maybe I misunderstood your wording, the 580 II will be trigger by the ST-E2, not by another slave 580.

Thanks Lotto. My hope was to not have to buy 4 RP's to operate my ST-E2 and 3 flashes even if it meant limited range for the two flashes that don't have RP's.

I'm not sure what the point of getting the RP is, then, if you're willing to live with the limited range for some of your flash units which are triggered via IR instead of RP's RF.

I think lots of people interested in the RP are waiting for the $25 Jr. version.

I don't usually have a problem with the distance of the Canon IR but when I do it is most times a hair light or a light from behind that won't fire due to proximity/sunlight. This fixes that. If I was willing to shell out an extra 360 then they could all have the luxury of firing via RP's I guess.
