my review of the show (http://www.bigtakeover.com/reviews/the-boredoms-with-northampton-wools-the-paradise-boston-ma-saturday-march-29-2008)
crazy show. unlike any other rock show i've been to. very difficult to shoot. 3 full drum kits on stage, set up in a circle. no photo pit. sold out show. no flash / first ten minute restrictions (i was told 15 minutes by the label publicist, and was able to convince security to allow us 15 instead of 10...that turned out to be pretty key, since the first 3-4 minutes was just the leader eYe in total darkness, standing in the middle of the drum circle and waving those light balls around (see shot 6). the fact that i got a good shot from a situation which was almost impossible to meter and focus on was pretty unexpected. for the first shot, i stuck the fisheye on, guessed at the exposure (it was super dark), and held it as far as i could over my head (i was standing right in front of the drummer).
i bailed to the balcony after ~12 min or so, but it was 3-4 people deep. i managed to convince some people to let me squeeze in for ~15 seconds to get a couple of shots, but i really would have preferred to shoot from the left part of the balcony, to get the full effect of the drum circle. shooting the whole show would have been awesome, as there were some great moments.
