Yay or nay. I like it a lot but wanted some opinion on it. I know I wish I had the whole head too.

Interesting shot for sure. Almost doesn't look real. Did you create the effect in photoshop or pan while shooting to capture this effect? (If you did the latter, kudos to you.)

I think it is cool shot and would make a nice poster.

Under the right circumsatnces I think it would make for a good image, especially since the riders eyes are sharp within acceptable limits. Good emotion on his face as well.

No it was shot. Was doing slow shutter flashed pans.

Too bad you didn't have second curtain sync enabled. This would have been even better.

Honestly, I'm not quite sure why... but I really do like it.
A lot of the time I tend to just dismiss shots like this as arty farty claptrap. Yes, I know, but it's probably just an age thing (you know, grumpy old man and all that). But I really do quite like this one.

Solid image Dan. I even like only having a part of the head in the capture as it looks like he is riding right into the lens almost. Well done.

Great shot!! The facial expression and that look in the cyclist's eye - brilliant! The blur contributes also but without the emotion it would be just another panned-movement-blur photo. I'm not so sure that second curtain sync would have made much difference.

It's definitely a keeper, but i think second curtain sync would get the blur going in the right direction rather than as it is. Either way, it's a striking image and if you had a model release I think you have yourself a nice little Stock Image.

So was the flash fired int the middle of the exposure? How do you do that?
Dan-o
4th of April 2008 (Fri), 12:58
With first curtain it fires first they the blur from the long exposure. With second curtain you would have the blur from the motion then the correctly exposed image from the flash.
So basically first curtain fires the flash at the beginning of the exposure while second curtain fires at the end of the exposure.

I know how those two work, but it looks like there is blur ahead of and behind your subject. Thats why Im asking if the flash was fired in the middle of the exposure
