I'll admit first off, I'm still wrestling with image size vs dpi, but I have a question I can't seem to find the answer to.
I previously had a nikon coolpix 885 and left it for a powershot s30. They are the same megapixel quality (3). Why do pictures taken with the 885 and dl to the computer show up with dpi of 300 and ones taken with the s30 show up as a dpi of 180? They are the same image size in photoshop (2048x1536 pixel resolution), but the doc size in the 885 is ~5x7 and in the s30 it's ~8x12. I bet there is a simple answer, but I'm overlooking it somehow.
