This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture that I choose, resized to exactly 800 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 48hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read (Before and After # 43).

This is all about having fun so have at it!!!

This game will end on Saturday, April 5th at 5pm (Eastern).

I took this shot at the waterfront on langley afb (if you seen the post I did for this one this is the unedited version). I did do a long exposure on it so that's why the water is like that.

I tried to turn this into a nighttime photo. First time I've done it, so I'll let y'all decide if I succeeded or not.

Straightened.
Cropped.
Added some sky - rule of thirds thing, I guess.
Added a layer of black then lowered the opacity.
Added a gradient layer.
Added a moon and a reflection. There's probably an easier way to do it, but I just made a couple of circular selections, feathered a little and filled with white. Then a made a larger selection around them feathered a lot and added a diffuse glow.
To the reflection, I used the "sprayed strokes" filter - set on horizontal.
Then I added a blue lighting effect.
Messed with contrast and levels and ended up brighting the middle of the photo a little bit.
Added a fake matte/frame type of border.

Ta Da.

Added a layer on overlay with a darker exposure
Colored the sky pinkish and the water yellowish
Boosted contrast
Added a little fog, blurred the water
Monday morning filter @ low opacity
Layer of black on overlay
Angled strokes @ low opacity
Created the border by doing two layers of solarization (one making the piers white, one making them black) and blending them diagonally with the eraser tool. Merging those two players and then blending them with the background layer to bring in some color

OK, I wanted to make this look like one of the shots you see when they use a 10 stop filter in the middle of the day with lots of sun. This is my take on it:

1. Added morning filter from NIK software.
2. Added tonal contrast (to just the posts) from NIK software.
3. Added a brown color.
4. Cloned out the background.
5. USM at 300, 0.3, 2.
6. USM at 40, 20, 0.
7. Added a frame.

Well I guess it must have been one of those times were everyone was busy again. Spring is here and everyone should be outside taking pictures (I will be soon if it stops raining here lol)

Any ways the winner is sf1- It looks very modern to me and I thought that was cool.

Second went to SonofDarwin and SuzyB- I liked the foggy look you did to it SonofDarwin and I thought the night version was really cool too SuzyB

SQuiP I thought yours was cute.

Congrats sf1 and can't wait for the next one.

Great job sf1. With the great cloning job and the colorless water, it's almost abstract. I really like it.

Can't wait for the next challenge!
