I have noticed significant price differences between the Canon Ink and compatible ink providers. I have the i960 and want to know if the compatible ink cartridges are the same quality for photo printing.

Thanks for your help.

Particularly with the new Canon inkjets including the i960... the drolet size is soo small that the wrong ink will easily clog the print heads... the print heads whcih unlike your old HP.. is NOT built into the ink cartridge.. but the printer itself.

By using non canon inks you run the risk of permanantly dmaging your printers head/nozzels... thus costing you the price of a replacement printer.

My S200sp (the most basic bubble jet printer you can buy) gets clogged up and stops working when after market inks are used, and my land lords S400 recently also stopped working after aftermarket inks were used.

As CDS said the tolerances on canaon printers are so small given that print head is seperate from the cartridge, that most aftermarket inks (all in my experiance) are not suitable.

Its the old story of "you get what you pay for"

Also note that if the aftermarket ink clogs your print head, they are not cheap to replace. In my case it was worth more than the cost of the printer. Forunatly its amazing what you can clean with a little soapy water

Hey hey, sounds like moppie is handy with a phillips screwdriver!

I regularly take my Epsons apart for cleaning when I get ink smears.

Its really not worth the trouble to get "cheap" ink. If the ink for your printer is too expensive, get a different printer! I tried an HP last year, but gave up after being driven crazy by their wacky print driver and then going through SIX light black carts in a weekend. That price of ink really was too much.

The only NON-OEM inks that may be worth using, is the bulk ink systems. They seem to be reliable AND have good QC on their color from what I have heard.
