View Full Version : Has anyone used CPS Services?

I've yet to use my CPS Services, and after tipping over in my Kayak a few days ago with my 1D body, 28-300 'L' lens, 580EX flash and 3 batteries all going under salt water, I'm wondering how long to expect a return on fixing, if they can even fix them?
Anyone used it before and what should I expect?

I hope you had them insured. I have my doubts as to whether they are repairable after being totally submerged (exactly how long were they) and particularly in salt water.
CPS is different in each country and offer different level of services in each country (you would think they would standardize this). I can only speak to CPS Canada. What CPS does here is get you to the front of the repair line at the CSS. They will provide you (free of charge) with a loaner providing they have one available at the time. I see this being the only upside in your case.
The qualification criteria for acceptance in the CPS program is different in other countries as well. Here you have to prove that you are a shooting professional and not just someone with alot of pro level gear. You must have so many 1 series bodies and lenses as well as provide references from past customers. As I understand it, in other countries if you only have the minimum equipment you are in which results in a high number of members these days which would make the availability of loaners tough.
Good luck

Sorry Pat, you send them in but they are probably toast. I am afraid you will be replacing your kit. Call them first but do not freak when they hit you with the bad news.
I have been in this game for nearly 35 years and lived in or near a beach for much of my life. I have never seen a repair worth the bill even if it were possible. Once seawater sets into the circuits and mechanicals there is no cleaning it out. So what you have is 99% beyond economical repair.

Thanks guys for the info. I'm already a member, but just havent used it yet, so I just was wondering about about turn-around time.
Hopefully they'll be able to fix something, as I'm sure the insurance premium isnt going to be fun!
Thanks again
