:( I own a Metz 70 MZ5 with a 3102M2 adaptor. It works just fine with my ‘old’ Elan 7e, however, it doesn’t like my 10D or 1Ds one bit. Now I know I can switch to manual or AE mode and get it work (since it will always fire in full output mode), however this takes way to much time as most shots I take are of people in action and you don’t get a second chance. I also have a 540EZ which can I use some of the time, but having close to 1K into the Metz and adaptor, I don’t just want to toss it. Any calories of wisdom and/ or workarounds would be greatly appreciated. Metz’s response so far has been pretty much of the TS variety. HELP

You need a canon EX series flash, the new ex flashes use E-TTL metering and the old ones use TTL, The new digitals are not compatable with older flashes. For fully manual flash you would need the 550EX or the 580EX.

 Sorry, my bad. It's a 550EX not the other one. That however doesn't answer my question. :D

Have you checked with Metz?

My wild guess (because I don't have your equipments) -- will an M foot work better than an M2 foot for your cameras?
