Van Halen? 2008 Tour

I'm wondering why I have only seen one thread with VH pics on their current tour. I know the person in that thread did not have credentials.

Is everyone being rejected for credentials or is no one trying? I have exhausted every venue I know of to get credentials and so far nothing. Eddie was my childhood idol, it would be a dream concert to photograph. I know the local newspaper covered it in my area the last time they were here but it doesn't look like anyone else covered the show....

I was going to go, but it got delayed. I would love to bring my camera and get some shots, but I don't know if they would allow that.

I flew from Chicago to Denver just to see that show. I Intended on bringing my camera, but a phonecall to the Pepsi Center stopped me. Im glad I didnt bring it anyways, becasue it was VAN "FRICKIN" HALEN we are talking about, and I had way too many beers to hold the camera straight. And I say Rock on......

I know that getting credentials is VERY difficult for this tour. I saw VH in San Diego and Anaheim, as a fan. They have a photographer on tour with them that is hired by David Lee Roth.

And the PR contact is not too receptive, even with a professional photographer friend of mine who knows her personally and professionally.

Also they only let photographers shoot from the sound board. That is what the house photgrapher had to do in San Diego — he used his 400MM.

That is what I know with my experience here is SoCal.

They aren't scheduled for my venue but I have my 400mm f/2.8L IS with 1.4TC on a Gitzo carbon fiber legset with leveling base and full Wimberley head all ready for them! :-)

Honestly, some concerts I'd rather enjoy then take photos. I've been a heavy rocker for a long time and it tends to be my stress release. That's why my concert photos are not of rock bands. I'd forget I had a camera.

I did go to see them the last time they hit my area and it ended up being the best show I have seen VH play, Eddie was on point with all of his solos and it was just great to see Dave...when they announced new dates and a return to the area I went into a panic and tried everything to cover the show...at this point it looks like it's not going to happen...but I did buy a ticket for my son and I to see them together...my son is a nine year old guitarist..maybe some of the good parts of Eddie can rub off on him...

From what I've heard it's what everyone is saying except their PR contact was very receptive and very nice in emails to people that I know that contacted her. From what I was told by someone locally was that dailies were approved and have to shoot from the board. The tour has a photographer that is a friend of the band and that person is who sent stuff to wire services. Things are different on this tour from the last with Sammy where others did get approved but still on that tour you had to shoot from the board. I turned that one down.
