I am looking for a backpack. I don't know which one I need because I haven't visably seen them and checked them out, only what I have seen online and I am so confused as to what will fit what.

What I am looking for:

Has to be backpack type.

I want one that zips around the middle for your gear. I have the canon bag now and I hate how I have to lay it on it's side, unzip it and get what I need.

I would like to find something that can store my XTi with the 70-200mm F/4 attached. If they don't make one this deep and you know it, please let me know so I can change the type of bag I am searching for :)

Besides the XTi and the 70-200, I also need to fit the niffty fifty, tamron 28-75mm F/2.8, 430ex, kit lens (not extremely ness. as I dont use it and am looking to sell), extra batteries, charger, CF cards and a couple other little things. I am also looking to buy an extender so I need a space for that too.

I also need it to be sturdy. The canon bag proved to be junk and has broken in many places in just 6 months. Everytime I touch it I think another part of the bag breaks.

I must mention I can't spend a fortune so please off only afforable bags. Thank you.

Sounds like you are describing the LowePro Slingshot 200 AW (http://products.lowepro.com/product/SlingShot-200-AW,2035,4.htm). I had one, and it works just as advertised, is well made, and widely available. They come up used here for as little as $65 - 80, or can be had new at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Lowepro-Slingshot-Weather-Backpack-Black/dp/B000B9O83A)right now for $79.95 If you need one immediately, I've even seen them at the big box (BB and CC) stores.

Only reason I sold mine is that I also needed to carry a laptop in the same bag, so I just moved up the LowePro line. I believs Tamrac and others make similar side loaders, but imho you can't go wrong with the Slingshot 200 AW.

<edit> The Slinsghot line (there is also a smaller 100 AW and larger 300 AW) are "sling" bags as opposed to full backpacks, so may not be exactly what you are looking for. Recommend you try if possible. I found very comfortable, and easy to carry on the back, but ymmv. </edit>

I appreciate the information, thank you! I have never tried a slingshot, may I ask, do you feel it will comfortable for me, or in the way if I keep it on while shooting youth football? I keep my gear on my so no one walks off with it. Thanks.

Yes, I think very easy to shoot while wearing. In fact, that was one of the design criteria for the line.

I suggest the Lowepro Rover AW II. It can fit your gear, opens top-side, sternum and waist supports, and the top part can hold photo or non-photo gear(ie lunch, extra clothes)

where are you located? I could sell you mine if you're anywhere around NY:)

Thanks so much. I think the LowePro Slingshot 200 AW is what I am looking for, I just wonder if the strap will be uncomfortable on me since it goes across the chest.

Hangbot, I am in Maryland, if I decide the bag you are offering works for me, would you consider shipping, and if so, what would your total price be shipped to 21221? On this bag, would my XTi fit with the 70-200 attached?

I suppose I don't really NEED to store it attached but I do use it most often so I prefer it attached.

**edit** Wait, I was thinking the slingshot goes across the chest, it doesn't? So does it stay on your shoulder easily while shooting or will it be falling off? I'm so confused

Sorry for the late reply!

No, you're correct - the Slingshot goes across the chest.

My bag is in excellent condition and would probably sell it for $100. The only thing is - I'm not a big fan of shipping, and prefer face to face sales. If you decided the bag works for you, I could drive down halfway to you:)
