I like shooting my son's cricket games and the light was perfect this Saturday morning. I could not believe how sharp the images were with the 70-200L non IS.
Thanks for looking in.
Cheers
Andrew
PS: None of these boys is my lad.

Cracking images-difficult light well controlled.

Thanks for comment Lesmac, interesting that you felt the light was difficult where I thought is was perfect being around 9am on a clear morning sun low and directly behind me and allowing shutter speeds of around 1000 - f6 & ISO100. (the run out image)
Am I missing something, still very new to this stuff.

Sorry-should have been clearer im my comment- what I meant was that direct sunlight is often difficult- shadows, high contrast areas , blown out whites etc
Flat, cloudy light is normally easier to manage (less contrasty) although I agree you need to be careful the shutter speeds don't drop too much.
In your images, you have shadow detail , and the whites aren't bleached out-that's what I meant by how well you have controlled the light-it would have been easy to get these wrong.
Hope this helps ?

Ok got it now, thanks for the explaination, maybe the 400D/ XTi tendency to under expose worked in my favor this time :D

Great photos! Have you ever thought about sending these photos to your local newspaper, etc?

G'day Joe,
Welcome to POTN and thanks for the encoraging words.
I have offered them for the school newsletter and annual report (School match) as a parental gesture to the school and the boys involved...they do love seeing themselves look like "real" cricketers in some of the images.

#1 Nice shot but needs the crop tightening slightly.
#2 dissapointed that you havent got the batsman in shot. That would then have been a great capture with all the emotion of a runout. Without him its a reject I'm afraid.

Appreciate you taking the time Graham, I will muck around with the shots off line and see how they look.

Cricket can be a bit boring to photograph so you need to be alert. #2 could have been a great capture if the batsman was in the image instead of just a bit of his bat. You show a good eye and great timing to capture both shots so keep trying and post some more from your next match.
