I hope this is the correct forum for this. Is it possible to put a 3d shadow effect behind a picutre (on a canvas) using Phots Shop Elements ver 2? I know that I ca put a pic on a canvas but I cannot find how to do the shadow effect as if the pic is raised from the canvas.

Or maybe its time to buy Photo Shop CS???????? of ver 8???

Don't have Elements with me now but I think you can do this. Check the Help file for Styles or Drop Shadows and see what you come up with. I'll check when I get home tonight.

Here is a tutorial on the subject. You have to have the photo and canvas on separate layers and apply the layer style to the photo layer. Thanks for asking this as I also learned how to do it - just tried it in PSE 2 and it works!!

Can you work with layers in Elements?

If so, you can create a blank white canvas that is...lets say 40 pixels larger (on each side) than your end-result photo. In other words, if your photo is 600x400, make the white canvas 640x440.

Then create another layer...a medium gray one this time....centered....that is the same size as your photo (600x400). Then put your photo centered on top of these two layers.

Move the gray layer around until you like the placement and run a gaussian blur on the gray layer until you like the shadow effect.

ding ding ding.....you have a drop shadow.

Yes, you can work with layers in Elements. Thanks for the suggestion of another more manual way to do this - with this one you can even work with different colors for the shadow effect.
