Everyone,
Saw a herd of Elk far away and had the Pro1 with me. Zoomed as far as I could to get a pic. Took the pic, and then the lens wouldn't retract when trying to "un zoom". Turning the camera off and on a couple of times brought it back fully retracted, but now the camera gives me a "LENS" error message when I turn it on, and I hear a slight clicking sound. Then it turns off. I'm stuck. According to the manual, the "LENS" error message says I'm holding the lens when turning it on. Not the case. Anything I can do before I go through the hassle and wait of sending it to Canon USA?
Thanks much,
Steve

Steve, take the batteries out, leave for a while and try again
it's probably a software problem as you may have given the camera too many commands altogether
anyway just try . nothing to lose
good luck

Marie...
Thanks! You were close. The battery ran out of juice but i couldn't see this with the LENS error message. Called Canon and they suggested recharging the battery before sending it in. This was it! I'm kinda embarassed by all this but happy it is working. Thanks again.

thanks Steve
I really was thrilled to hear you got it fixed up ok
no need to be embarassed.
things happen us all , all the time.
our hearts can drop if anything (seemly) goes 'wrong'
( with such expensive equipment especially)
thanks

What came about this lens error message for the canon powershot pro1 finally? I have the same problem with my Pro1. The camera is getting old and I wonder whether its worth getting fixed or not? Is it very expensive to get this problem fixed?
Thanks

Go on line to get a repair estimate from Canon then decide if it is worth it. the wife and I each have one, they have wonderful glass, but getting long in the tooth. http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/online_repair_tracking/consumer/digital_cameras/powershot_pro_series/powershot_pro_1

Im glad to see they will still service the Pro1 for you. I have a 20-35mm 2.8L that wont focus anymore and no way to get it fixed or buy the focus drive assy.
