Testing some processing techniques. Rip away!

Nice shot. Not sure about the PP, but that's pretty subjective. I'd like to see it with just a little less.
But that's just me.

I have a tamer version....I was thinking about tossing this one on some notecards.

Quite painterly. From a photographic standpoint, my opinion is that I don't care for it. From an artistic standpoint, I'd like to have this on a wall.
Was up your way last week Dan, thought about your posts as we drove past the roundtable. Wish I would have had more time to shoot while there, although it seemed a lot of the old stuff around the river has changed dramatically from what I remembered of it. I was shocked to see what the old speedway has become.

I like the processed one better. I think I'm slightly surprised that there isn't terribly much different between the two...

As between the two, I also like the processed one better. Certainly the colors are much better/brighter.
Forget I said anything

Okay. I've stared at it for a while, and it's the sky in the processed image that bothers me. The rest of it I like.

Hey Jon....I won't start on the Speedway....just say that is one of the biggest fiascos in Asheville history. Amazing what a few crooked politicians and a pile of cash can do.
Thanks for the input on the photo...next time you are over, give a shout...lots to shoot around here!

There is some serious speckling of the sky in the processed version...

I'll drop a line next time Dan, this past trip was a bit of an emergency. I hope to come back up in a few more weeks when the trees bud out a bit more. Shot a lot of waterfalls last week, but the clouds hung too low over 3k ft for some of the falls I wanted to capture.

We actually are getting enough rain that the falls are running this year.

I like the processed one better. As stated the sky looks odd.

After looking at it for some time, I think it's neat how the heat signatures off the engine's exhaust has effected the PP image. The tree in the upper left is uneffected while the trees and clouds directly over the train is dramatically effected. My first impression was the same as the Chief's but the more I look at it the more I like it.

What is really odd is the fact that there was actually much more black smoke than is evident in either picture. The processing was supposed to bring out the exhaust smoke, but really didn't seem to accomplish that very well.
