Here are a few from the weekend at St. Petersburg Florida street race. Tough shooting in-as-much as you have to play a lot of hide and seek with obstructions, tight working conditions and a whole lot of fence. It's such a beautiful location.. but just very difficult to find angles that allow you to set the scene and capture the action. Here are a few attempts.

I love number 8, and number 3.

Good work in the hard conditions.

Great work as usual John. I particularly like #2 of the aston. Shows a great sense of motion and action.

Great group; #3 and #6 (love that Audi) really work for me.

Thanks. The Lola/Mazda in #3 is really a deceptive car to shoot. It is whiter than any car I've ever seen. And the green is really affected by the light as well. Ideally, you'd like to shoot the car a full stop under. Unfortunately, that would underexpose every other car on the track. This happened to be from a morning session running up into turn 10 and the light played out spectacular.

Thanks again,

John

Great stuff, from a less then stellar place to shoot at, with the fencing and associated clutter.

The challenges are good, though. It makes you think and you take those ideas to the next track where the challenge isn't there.. but the shot is. :)

Thanks,

JT

WOW! That is awesome! I would be thrilled if my pics came out that good in perfect conditions... let alone harsh ones!!!

Exactly, I think if it was easy, it would take the fun out of it. Maybe its a personal thing, but when you know what you had to work with, and you know you got the shots nobody else did. it makes it that much more rewarding.

The Mazda shot is great. Man I want a 500!! Love the Aston too. I think we all get tired of seeing yellow Vettes!:)

500mm is nice. Once you get over full frame, though.. there's a whole new world of shooting with it. Long shots can take on a whole different look because of the compression. You find yourself seeing/creating scenes that you wouldn't have thought of before.
