Most here have the Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM lens.

Any macro lens around a 100mm by a major manufacturer will be optically excellent (Tamron 90, canon 100, sigma 105) the canon EF-S 60mm lens is also excellent.

Guys are allready said, cheapest(but not worst-all macro lens have excelent optics) is sigma 105, tamron 90 and at the end famous canon 100mm f2.8 usm.Canon have greatest working distance, that is very important thing in catchin' litlle bugs, i personally would not go under 90mm.

Im buying the Canon 100mm f2.8 USM Macro lens. Why? well becuase of its great reviews! I havent heard a single bad point to it and i've had a go with it myself and it is VERY nice indeed. Also if you look on the 'Which Lens do you Use' topic you'll see that the highest vote went towards the 100mm Canon lens.

Thanks for all the replies. Im thinking of the Ccanon 100mm as well. I read the reviews on Amazon...almost 90 reviews and all are 5 stars only a couple are 4 stars. Hearing everything here convinces me more that i should fork out that extra bit of money to get it...thx all!!

I hope you enjoy it as much as i will when i finnaly purchase i own in 2 weeks time.
It offers endless fun, Macro is like an amazing new world to photography, making the dull, interesting!
Where are you planning on buying it from though? Canon's RRP is £476 but I've found it for for £290 on eaby. If your not comfortable with ebay then thats cool but i do reccomend the seller Kerso. I plan to buy from him and I've great things about his online shop. If not, see if you can find it for around the £290-£350 mark elsewhere.

Got mine from microglobe.co.uk, £319.00 + £8.00 postage, 17/03/08, and there is also a £40 cash back - so I reckon that was a good deal.

I have the 60mm and love it! Tack sharp pics! I mostly use it for product work and som portrait! It is superb for both these. If you need working distance, go with the Canon 100mm;)

I have both the 60mm EF-S and 100mm. They are both great lenses, but on a crop XTi. the 60mm is a great lens. It's tack sharp, lightweight and a great lens. If you don't require the extra range, I'd really look at the 60mm.
