First of all the composition is good and seems very candid which I like. However, the sky is completely blown out, there is no good contrast on the people and they are blue. My advice would be to shoot manual, expose for the sky, lock in the exposure, recompose and use flash to light the people up. The only way to learn is to post...you can inspire other learners to do the same. So kudos to you for that!

Fantastic advice! and if you through in a tripod, set the self timer and get that flash off camera.....

Adjust Levels
Adjust Contrast
Add sky (gradient map blue to green)
I did Some Dodge and Burn on sky with soft low opacity brush.
Add warm photo filter
selective color
sharpen

The edit looks too processed for my liking, although I agree that the original could use some work. Great composition though!
