Either tonight or Friday night (passed 12:00am) the Leonid shower will be at it's peak, with about 20-40 an hour. I am wondering if it's possible (I have aDigital Rebel) to point the camera up and leave the lense open for 30 min or more.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I think it has a bulb mode... I've never tried it... though you may want to look up how bulb mode works in the manual. Also, since you're doing a long exposure, you may not have to worry about camera shake when you press the shutter release.... or you may want to invest in a remote control.

Yes, it does have bulb mode... How much are the remotes?

They're under $40, even for a Canon brand one. Or you can sniff around on the web and find the plans and parts list for making your own for under $10, unlike us poor stiffs with the 10Ds, 20Ds and 1D models, who don't have much choice but Canon or brand X due to a proprietary connector.
