Just curious how many gamers (and hardcore gamers) we have on this board. I am very much a hardcore PC gamer. I won't admit to be good at games, but I will admit to being a hardcore gamer.
Any other hardcore or more than casual gamers on this forum (PC or console)?

I'm a bit of a hardcore Quake 3-er
Used to be into it a lot more but photography gradually took over so I don't keep the hardware up to date now. Even played regularly in one of the UK leagues

A long long time ago...
Delta Force.. I was even in a "squad" (like a clan.. but for Different type of game) Made a little reputation for myself too.. (very little)
And UT....
It's been years since I've played UT.. I don't even have it installed on any of my PCs..
I fire up Delta force (Task Force Dagger) every 8 months or so and hop on line for a quick deathmatch... I'm allways amazed that I "still have it"
Other than that I play an RTS on my own every so often. I like the Age of Empires series.

I used to come home from school, and play till i went to sleep. After reformatting, i havent even reinstalled a game though... Buying Half Life 2 soon, and will get back into it though...ive been playing counterstrike for 3 or so years now...so I can't wait to play Counterstrike Source. Halo 2 has been good to me as of lately...but photography and school have slowed down my gaming immensely.
Games i used to play frequently:
SOF2
Star Wars Galaxies
Far Cry
Doom3
Call of Duty
UT (2k3, 2k4)
Counter Strike
As you can tell, since slowing down, I actually have a life now. It's quite invigorating :D

I used to play the xbox, but not any more.
It is actually for sale, and would make a nice gift, here is what I have
xbox with 1 more year warrenty thru gamestop.
3 controllers
dvd remote
madden 2005, 2004, Nba live 2005, Brute Force, Links 2004, and Halo 2
high def. to tv cables
Box, recepit, and all included accessorys.
I dont know how much all of this is worth, so make an offer.
I will also consider trades for glass. Let me know.

I used to play a lot of GranTurismo 3 on the play station, as well as Counter Strike on a regular basis with Friends. And Iv played games like Diablo and Never Winter nights right through several times, multiplayer and single player.
Unforunatly I got some arthritis in my left thumb (at the old age of 27) and its put a complete stop to my Gran Turismo 3 playing, and slowed down my time spent playing everything else.
Forunatly the new Grand Theft Auto is doing a good job of rebuilding the strength in my thumb :D

GTA: San Andreas on PS2. I'm in love.
Also, it's assisting me to cut down on my social expenses whilst saving for a 20D. :)

Gamer ... sometimes
Hardcore ... no ... can't really do that on a laptop
During the week, I'm working on assignment. In the evenings in the hotel I sometimes play Counterstrike Condition Zero on my laptop.
Before the birth of my son (he's 21 months now) I used to sometimes (once a month) play Counterstrike, C&C: Generals or Ghost Recon on the weekend with a friend while the wives chatted (Hmm, most likely they were complaining about us  ).
Well, my son has put very much of an end to that, and I'm not really looking back :D
After all, he'll be old enough soon ...
Best regards,
Andy

UT, UT2003, UT2004, RTCW, ET.
I refuse to buy Halflife 2 as you MUST have an internet connection to play it, which is invasive at the least.

You only need the connection to activate it the first time when you install it.. You're missing out on a great game for a dumb reason.

Why is it a dumb reason?
It is not necessary to have done it this way - even photoshop gives you the option to call someone etc as an alternative.

I'm not saying your dumb, but I think your missing out on one of the greatest games made, to date. It's truly amazing. Ok, now that I think about it, it is sort of dumb (IMHO) to not buy it because you need an internet connection to activate it. I haven't bought it yet, just played at friends (but i plan to soon) and I'm pretty sure you have to activate it through Steam, which is all they use now. And Steam is, *gasp*, online.

yes i know. and there are massive problems with people not being able to activate the software they have bough because steam servers can't handle all the traffic.

The problems aren't massive.. and most are settles. Much faster than the 20d's massive freeze problem. :D

I'm a pretty avid gamer. I consider myself hardcore (as I said before). In the past two weeks, I have purchased:
HALO 2 - Xbox
Ace Combat 5 - PS2
Need For Speed Underground 2 - PC
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines - PC
Bloodlines actually uses the Source engine...the same engine that Half-Life 2 runs on.
I'm still considering a Half-Life 2 purchase...but I'm not sure I have the time with all these other games and Photography too.

8) Not hardcore but 4-5 times a week for short periods. Only play two games nowadays - Battlefield 1942 (and all its mods) and Blitzkrieg (and its two add-ons).
I've only just learned to pilot a helicopter in Battelfield DC - and love to play on-line. Remember "'Gonad's gonna get ya!" if we ever meet on the battlefield.

Occasionally play QIII and UT at lan parties.
I ran a Counter-Strike Server from 1.0 up until 1.5. My Cable company started cycling IP's and dropping connections too often so I just ended it.
I don't game much anymore, all spare time going to playing with my kids and photography.
I did however just buy Halo2 LE for the XBOX and can see nights of playing after the kids go to bed in my future. :)

ROFLMAO! Welcome spelchek, you're in good company. That is as far as the blathering goes ;). Flight Sims have always impressed me; just before they piss me off. Apparently, it takes some skill to fly an aircraft of any realistic sort  That 'Per Inconsideratus Virtus' part... yeah, now that's me with a camera!

I play Civilization III once in a while.
That game is evil! Between Civ2 and 3 I have lost many hours/days/weeks of my life!
Everyonce in a while I loose my sanity and have to install it again. Unfortunately now I'm playing World of Warcraft. Or as my wife calls it, "That stupid game!" I think I was better off when I was indifferent to all online games.

I'm with you there. I haven't played either one in years, but I can remember quite a few nights in college after coming home from work (2AM) and starting up Civ 2 (it was brand new) and realizing it was time to get some sleep because the sun was coming up.

My brother inlaw and I both recieved a free copy of Civ2 when we bought something else. That night when I got home I thought, eh I'll try it and see if it's any good. The next time I looked at my clock it was 3:35 a.m.!
I talked to the brother inlaw the next day, told him what happened and he said, "What did you have to go somewhere?"

PS2, xBox, GameCube, GBA, Dreamcast all hooked up. I have the xBox and PS2 on my DSL network. SOCOM Online on PS2 rocks. Latley I have not played much, but I just got a few new games, GTA: SA, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, and Metal Gear Solid 3. See, I was deprived as a child of video games. I am 24 now, but from age 10-20 All I had was a Super Nintendo. Never a PS1, N64 or anything else, so, when I finally got my own job and own money I bought my own games. Ohh the joy!!!!

I loved my Amiga 15 years ago! It had sound & video built into the OS way before the PC did, so we had lots of GREAT games while most PC people could only be amazed by Pong. 1st flight sim I got was Battle of Britian.
Empire came out with a version for the PC, but while the graphics are a lot better than what we had then, the game doesn't allow for creating pilots, promoting them based on past performance (including the AI's performance), & forming your own wings for missions as the LucasFilm version did. That was great 'cause you could actually trust your wingman to do something besides just fly around. The better they got, the more aggressive they were. And it was terrible when one of the guys that you had 'brought along' for the last month was killed! (You learned to back them up.)
"Bad Day at the Office": screenshot from the Empire version.

Well, isn't that cute! We have a built in censor now that changed the pic name in the link from Oh**** to Oh****! That's just wonderful!
Did it here, too.
Let's try OhSh-t.
Well, that works! (Stupid AI!) I'll have to go back to photobucket & change the name. Let's try it again:

edit --> hiya photoguy... yep, theres at least one more combat flight sim addict on this bbs :) We fly a range of sims, we have an il2 squad, a 'Warbirds 2004' squad and a Target Rabual squad..
BTW.. have you checked out 'Targetware'?? Its currently in open beta, free to download and fly online... its worth checking out, the flight model is increadible...there is a ww1 mod, a PTO ww2 mod, a korean era mod plus a couple more mods still in closed beta!
If you are interested, id be happy to 'show you the ropes' whenevr you like!! I fly (targetware and Warbirds) under the same handle i use in here :)

Hey spelchek, thank's for the offer to "run me through Basic". (Looking at the pic, I'm not sure I want to fly with a bunch of guys with targets on their foreheads!) :D
Problem is, the reason I don't play much anymore is that I tried IL2 when it first came out, & my 455Mhz system just couldn't handle it, so I guess I'm grounded 'till I upgrade. I will take a look at Targetware, though, just to see what I'm missing.
As the Polish WWII Ace said, watch out for those "Fokkers"! ;)
