-Looking for a UV filter for the canon 400 f5.6
-77mm

-Question is, I dont want to sacrifice ANY percentage of image quality from the lens (although prob impossible lets try anyway :))
Ive read good things about B+W, are there any better Ultra Thin UVs out there that I should look into ?

Personally, I love the B+Ws. I have at MRC UV filter on every lens of mine. Image quality was as if there were no filter there as at all. However, if you want to look at another brand check out the Hoya's, many love them and they have great ratings.

I checked out Hoya just now, 99.7% nice lol. I have a question though.

-While reading my current photo pro magazine I came across the Tiffen Digital HT Filters....made from titanium and apparently are way more scratch resistant than any other, anyone else clarify

using nothing but the b+w's.

Good place to buy is 2filters.com. Great prices on these, and the hoyas.

ON the titanium, call me obtuse, but the last time I looked, titanium was not transparent!

I'm using the B+W too, and I'm very happy with them.
Here is a place to buy them too : http://hvstar.net/
That where I purchase mine ;-)

Then don't use a filter :p

B+W MRC is good though.

Glass is traditionally made of sand, it's not clear either is it? :p

It may be the metal part that screws in, rather than the see through bit ;)

Nah i think Tiffen says its mixed in with the glass and such  go figure

Then don't use a filter :p

B+W MRC is good though.

Id like to not have to but it "helps me sleep while in the field?" haha if that makes sense

Using a Hoya HMC Super Multi-Coated UV(0) filter caused occasional erratic focus when attached to my EF 400 f/5.6 L. Changing to tthe B+W F-PRO 010 UV-Haze 1x MRC filter reduced the erratic focus problem considerably. With no filter attached, I have had no AF problems.

Unless using the 400 in harsh conditions such as blowing sand or sea spray, a protective filter in not needed since the lens hood in sufficient

Wow good call! maybe ill buy a normal B+W and keep it on while walking out and around in the field and when I plant myselt take it off, sort of like a second lens cap but if i need to shoot real quick while walking its not a lens cap ;)
