First disappointment with 20D

After having my Canon 20D for 5 minutes had my first disappointment. Upon opening everything up, inserting my Sandisk Ultra II 1g card I went to charge the battary and realized they did NOT send a power cord to the charger. After looking through everything twice and getting ready to call B&H because I am bummed and dont have a charger here at work I notice the charger plugs directly into the outlet, No cord needed :lol:

haha, as I was reading that I was thinking to myself "I hope he didn't call anyone up angrily because there isn't a power cord that comes with the charger!"

I'm not a huge fan of having to plug it directly into the wall / surge protector myself, but I have one with a cord that came with 1 of my $5 batteries I got on eBay that work really well that I can use as well if I really want.

I had the exact same thought when I first opened mine :oops: ... glad to hear I'm not alone.

I like and prefer the direct plug-in (no cord) charger.

I bought my 20D on Monday and that missing power cord upset me too. That is until I saw the little fold out prongs on the back of the charger. I did get a little extra in my box though. It contained two camera neckstraps. Nice little Bonus.

I remember when I had ordered my 20D.... my nerves were shot enough because I ordered it, but the place ran out of stock just as I did, so I had to wait nearly an extra week before it actually got here so they could get a new shipment from Canon (hey, at least mine was fresh out of the factory, I guess :) )
But as I anxiously awaited it, any threads I saw that even hinted at an issue with the 20D made my heart sink as I started reading through it, and I started to question my purchase... now that I've got it, I have tossed all bad thoughts aside and love this camera.

Yup, I prefer the direct plugin charger too... it's much more portable.
The G3 had that type which I loved, then when I got the 300D it had the LONG power cord which I hated. I'm so happy Canon went back with the 20D.

Now that you mention it, I'd rank that fold-out charger as a disappointment. All those "wall wart" chargers (CG-580, AA, USB hub, cell phone, CD-ROM drive, . . . ) fill up the outlets about twice as fast as they need to, so I need to carry a couple more extension cords just to be able to plug them all in! Not to mention the risk of forgetting the one that got plugged in to some out-of-the-way outlet because there wasn't anywhere else available (fortunately, it's only been an AA charger so far).

I got my Apple iBook G4 yesterday and the power adapter that it came with would satisfy people on both sides of this power adapter "war" in this thread. The power adapter for the iBook out of the box plugs directly to the wall outlet. However, you can remove the plug by sliding out the corner where it is at and replace it with another corner which has a long power cord. Wasn't that ingenious of them? :mrgreen:

Yeah - they musta stolen it from Dell; my Latitude C400 (3 years ago) has just such a brick.

For your amusement...

The D30 came with a double battery charger and a skinny cord.

The 10D came with a single charger and a cord big enough to power a small city.

Now the 20D has a built-in plug like the charger for the itty bitty battery in my S-100??

What in the world are these guys thinking!!!

AT least the cords fit a whole bunch of accessories I have so I only need ONE spare. :)

Good one. :lol: I still use the original charger I got from by D30 it charges 2 battery’s and is a very nice charger. Glad you found the cord :shock: I mean plug :D !

I sold my D30 and D60 but kept the chargers from both. Now I can charge 4 batteries at a time. I take about 10-12 to a wedding for 5 cameras so I need double chargers. I've never used a 10D or 20 D charger..they are still in the box.

My G3 had a double I bought and when I sold it the cord had to go, I figured the canon 20 d ac cord would work but no such luck. I looked into seperate batteries for it and they are aroud $400. All the cheap ones are for the prosummer cameras.

I just bought a seperate charger so I can do 2 aty a time if I need to it also hooks up to dc for the car.

I tried the Tamron 200 to 500 lens and shot about 40 pics and it used up one battery in about two hours +.

Canon ha a double but it cost about $200.
