Having gone digital and bought 17-40L and 70-200L, both of which are great, I really miss my old 28-80 film zoom as my perfect walk around lens. I almost wish I had bought the Canon DSLR kit in order to get the 18-55. What are my choices now apart from the Canon 17-85IS? The range has to be from 17/18 to at least 55.
You can see why Canon brought out the 18-55 kit lens for people like me, pity there isn't an L version.

Alot of debate on the Tamron 28-75mm.... Alot of people are picking it up and saying it is a decent lens... It is in my VERY NEAR future...
the EF-S 18-55 is the closest to a film version of the 28-80 you can get on a 1.6x sensor but it is only good on the 300D and 20D....

You should look at the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8.
