Does anyone use an attachment for their monopod that allows quick shifts from horizontal to vertical? My funds are very limited and I can't afford to get something that I later find doesn't work very well.

A ball head would probably work quite well. Though, I think the best option would be a tripod ring for your lens (if there is one available for your lens).

I'm using the Tamron 28-75 2.8. I can usually handhold, but I shoot in a dark nightclub and sometimes want the flash off so the color cast of the lights shows. I'll have to look into the ballheads, as I have no experience with them.

We just finished up the latest iteration of the Do I need a ballhead on my monopod thread, and I am a ballhead kinda guy. Even with a tripod ring, the ballhead gives you a lot of flexibility in your movement and positioning. If you want to take a walk down a path that we have seen here many times before and probably will again, go here:
