View Full Version : Any Canon P&S Digitals with Quick Turn On/Shutter Respon

Hi all,

I have a Canon G1 and a Digital Rebel. I'm thinking of replacing the G1 with a smaller P&S digital. It's mainly for my wife to use and the G1 is kind of bulky. The G1 is also very slow to start up and take photos once you hit the shutter button. We're spoiled by the shutter button response on the Digital Rebel.

Anyway, do any of the newer Canon P&S digitals respond quickly to turning them on and pressing the shutter? At least better than the G1? I'd prefer to stick with Canon, but if none of the Canons are fast, any suggestions for a fast P&S from another manufacturer?

Thanks.

The A80 has a very admirable response time. Snippets from Steves-digicams.com review:
"From power-on to first shot captured took 3.5 seconds"
"Shutter delay, the elapsed time between releasing the shutter and capturing the image, measured a respectable 2/10 second when pre-focused, or 9/10 second including autofocus time. Shot-to-shot took just under 2 seconds"

Unfortunately the A80 is discontinued and I can't speak for the A95 as I don't have one.

Hello,

Just signed up to these forums as I've just purchased a Canon Ixus 40 (SD300 in the USA I think). Anyway, start up to be able to take a picture is pretty much instant!! :D

Thanks for the post midge. I just read about the SD300. I'm most concerned with the time to actually snap the photo after pressing the button, but a speedy time to turn on is good too. Looks like the SD300 is good on both counts.

I think the SD300 is probably the one to get, I just wish it used CompactFlash memory and not SD cards. I may wait a few months to see if Canon has any other quick P&S cameras up their sleeve.

Ahh right, I'm with you. Again, from pressing the shutter to the picture being taken is minimal time as with the start up. If you do decide to go with the SD300, you won't be disappointed.
