Anyone use an extra pad on their monopod? I often walk around for a extended period with the 70-200 on a mono over my shoulder and the inbuilt padding is minimal. Ive seen them on ebay for like $60 but was wondering if anyone has used others?
any tips would be great.

Yea I have seen others around here with that huge bright red canon one but everything I try to find it on ebay its way over priced and only available in way-to-bright red.

I use rollbar padding wrapped in black duct tape for extra padding when I know I'll have it over my shoulder for a long time.
It actually looks pretty clean and comes off easy with no permanent marks on the monopod. Total cost = $2.00

You can also try the foam insulation for copper pipe. That's all the Canon pad is.

I've gone the other way and mounted a RRS LRII QR lever clamp so that I can easily and quickly and painlessly remove and load the camera. When I used to sling it over my shoulder I always worried about it and dropped it once (but caught it with the strap).

That is exactly why slide in QR Clamps are allmighty stupid, I use a lock in clamp but if its over my shoulder its screwed on.
Also a 300L wont be comfortable on a shoulder strap.

Go to a bicycle store and get cheap bike center bar pad with velcro cloth cover. Or also and dirtbike store and get a cheap handlebar pad.
