What's more important?
I'm starting to build my new tripod set-up and plan on doing it in installments as the funds become available. I have an old Manfrotto 3001BN with an 486RC2 ballhead.

I'm still researching and plan on building a tripod to last me for a number of years. I'm leaning towards a Gitzo GT-2530 Mountaineer and possibly an Arcatech Ultimate Ballhead or Markins. I'm still undecided and still researching.

So, if you were to buy in installments would you buy the Gitzo legs first and continue to use the 486RC2 or buy the ballhead and use the 3001BN legs?

There will probably be a couple of months in between purchases.

Thanks

Legs first -- the carrying weight will decrease dramatically going to carbon fiber Gitzo and you don't use any super-teles that might necessitate a premium ballhead.
