I'm looking at getting the Tamron Zoom Telephoto SP AF 200-500mm f/5-6.3 Di LD IF Autofocus Lens. Anyone have this lens? I've done some searching on pbase and seen some nice shots taken with this lens.

Also do you know if Sigma or Tamron has anything to match Canon's 85mm 1.8?

No. In my opinion this is one lens you should not look cheaper alternative for. Well worth the money. Unless you'd like to catch two flies at once, e.g. "portrait" and "macro", in which case maybe Tamron 90/2.8 Di or some other macro lens would be good choice, but these are more expensive, too.

In forums such as this, as newer messages are posted or new replies are posted, they appear at the top of the listing, pushing slightly older messages down the list, where often they get overlooked.

Swatcop hadn't gotten any responses and decided to reply to his own message to get it moved to the top of the list again. Since he didn't have anything to add to the discussion, he simply posted the message BUMP.

It's common in these forums to do that, since many people don't look beyond the top few messages, figuring they've probably already read the subject listings for those lower down the list.

Thanks guys. I decided to get the Canon 1.4x Extender and I'm going to pick up the 85mm 1.8 :)
