Congrats. So what was your reasoning for getting the IS over the non-IS version?

Thanks

Well....a couple of reasons really.

1. I am not very steady handed..never have been.

2. I bought the 2.8 because i was sick of not being able to get decent shots on dull days and i figured the 'IS' would give me even more chance by giving me that slower shutter speed.

Time will tell....i have only took a few test shots indoors so far!

Tell you what...went into a local store tonight looking for a bag, came out with the non-IS version of this lens--used for $800, perfect condition, wonderful lens!

I sold my non-version and bought the IS version. The thing i immediately love on this lens is the removable tripod collar of the IS version. Now it fits perfectly on my tamrac lens pouch. And i agree, it is heavier than the non IS.

But, i have to discipline myself to hold this lens differently from the way i used to holding the non-is version. With the IS version, my hands always land on the focus switch so sometimes i accidentally move the switch to MF.

Try a Sigma 120-300mm F2.8EX that weights 5 3/4 lbs; or the Sigma 500mm prime, or better yet Canon 1200mm F5.6L. You too could have the 1200mm for a cool $80K or so. :)

The collar on the non-IS version is also removable. It just needs to be positioned correctly to pull it off. I'm so glad I did!

Ah... Looga barooga as the Aussies call it!! Just down the road.

I love shooting sports but i can't believe how difficult it is to find any suitable venues. Everywhere seems to be really suspicious about a guy that just wants to take photos.
Are there any websites that list local events that are suitable?

I shoot a lot of sports, inside and outside, and it is a great lens for my 300D.
