I know I haven't posted in a while. But.... :D I Just got my NEW 20D from Dell. What a difference from my D60 in feel and auto focus  I guess I'll have to change my signature and decide wheather to sell the D60 or not. I just don't want to give it away. And I don't want to buy another camera bag... such a dilema
Oh well I just wanted to vent good stuff for a change.

I just got my 20D yesterday and havn't had a chance to play with it yet. I too have a D60 and don't know if I should keep it or sell it and take a $1200 loss. I feel I should keep the D60 and go out with 2 bodies and 2 lens and not have to worry about changing lens in the field and woods. Good luck with your new toy.

Ha ha, seems the Canon guy is counting the cash (kidding). I just got my 20D today too. And I will definitely keep the 300D for reasons emilbev mentioned.

keep the D60's - you wouldn't get that much for it if selling second hand.

I also received my 20D from Dell yesterday! Man, that was a sweet deal they had last week!
I am shooting another low light/small club concert tonight and am so excited to try my new toy out in that situation.
Wheeeee.............. :D

You know you can always put it up on ebay.
Depending on the condition of the Camera and how "sweet" you make the deal seem; your auction could be more appealing than others.

I had no questions when I got the 20D - the D60 travels with the alternate lens (usually the wide). I hate juggling lenses when I don't have to - breaks up the workflow.

You are so right Jon, and that's one of the reasons I bought the 20D (to keep one lens on the 300D).

I'd say keep the D60. I had a 10D before I got my 20D and decided to keep the 10D instead of sell it...just incase.

Keeping the D60 sounds right but I just don't need 2 cameras. And compared to the 20D the D60 is going to look old and less than. But I have to say that when I bought the D60 the accessories that came with it were way better and numerous ie: dual battery charger and DC coupler, .
If I could get $700 for the D60 I'd sell it.

I too had a D60 when I bought my 20D. In my case, based on experience during my film days, I know that the times I'll honestly need two bodies will be rare indeed so I sold it and have no regrets. The $1,200 hit is a moot point since you've already lost the money with or without selling your D60. I'd rather sell it and pocket what I can instead of hanging on to it and watching my $1,200 "loss" grow. I used the cash I received to buy a 580EX. I know I'll get far more use out of this than keeping my D60. In my film days, I did the opposite and held onto my old bodies as back-ups and I ended up with a collection of old virtually worthless camera bodies - lesson learned.

thanks Yenoram, that sounds like the right advice for me. I'll probably put up with a 256mb card and a 28-80 comercial canon lens for an ask of $700 and see what happens. How much did you get for your D60?

I sold it in Canada for $950CDN which would have worked out to about $725-$750US at the time. It was a body only deal with no CF or any extras, although, I did have the box and original contents and it was in pristine condition. I had contemplated selling it on e-Bay but I was concerned about dealing cross-border, scammers etc. As it turned out, I advertised it in the Buy&Sell and sold it within one week. Given you live in the US e-Bay may be a better option - check out the recent closing prices to see what they're going at these days. I had a sinking feeling when the purchaser walked away with my D60 but it quickly disappeared when my 20D arrived. :)

Did everyone buy the 10D when it came out too?

I'm still waiting for my 20D, but I will be keeping the D60.
When I travel, I always take my EOS 3 film camera just in case I have problems with the D60. (I haven't acutally used more than one roll of film since I got the D60.)
Now, I will take the D60 as my back up body. The question then becomes is it worth keeping the EOS3? I have not used if for over 2 years. The only thing it would possibly be useful for is if I need a wider angle than a can get with my 17-40 lens on a 20D/D60. Maybe I should just sell the EOS3 and use the proceeds to buy a new Canon 10-22 or Sigma 12-24 mm lens.

Of course everyone has to make their own decision based on their shooting habits whether it makes sense to keep their "old" DSLR/SLR as a backup. For me, I don't shoot enough to justify keeping my D60. DSLRs are both cameras and computers and we've all had experience with the resale value of computers. Personally, I feel far better opening my camera bag and seeing my 580EX and grip as opposed to my unused D60 sitting there collecting dust. When the 20D replacement arrives a year or two from now, all of its predecessors will drop in price. I view this price drop as the cost of keeping a backup body. Each of us has to decide whether that cost is worth it. In my case, because I don't earn a living with my camera, I can live without it for a week or two - painful as it may be. I also take comfort in the fact the odds are stacked in my favour that my moderately used DSLR will keep on ticking and not break down. Canon would be out of the camera business if it was the other way around. I can understand where pros and other heavy users will feel otherwise but that's simply not the case for me.
