I have noticed that when I start to process the images that when I save them after processing them it doesn't save the EXIF data. I use PS Elements, or PS CS which ever loads first and do save as, and then save as a .tiff

After that I do all the work to the tiff file before saving as a jpg. But when I go back to get the EXIF data it isn't there. The viewer I'm using doesn't pick up .tiff files either.

Any idea's?

You could try not saving them as TIFFs in the middle of your process. That might not be practical though. That's how I do it though.

Hmmm. I just tried this and found that Adobe is substituting some of the EXIF data that was in the CRW file with it's own....

Although I did see the Camera data in there as well...

Try using another tool to see the other exif data.

I use a postcard ware tool called exifer (http://www.exifer.friedemann.info/) for jpegs and BreezeBrowser for CRW...

Unfortunately, PSCS doesn't maintain the standard EXIF format. After I'm done editing an image, I use BreezeBrowser to copy the EXIF data from the original back into the edited copy.

That'd be a very handy thing to do, copying the EXIF data back. Is there anything free that'll do the same job? I use ACDSee a lot, I wonder if that does it?

I don't think ACDSee can do that. I know I've heard of a couple free utilities that will do it, but I can't think of any offhand. Maybe someone else will know.

Exifutils should be able to do it.

Run it on a test image first. I use it to view EXIF - I've heard complaints about it doing weird things, like adding the Author twice. So edit with Exifutils and confirm the change with a couple other programs.
