Memory card size and simultaneous writing with 1d Mark II

I have always been of the opinion that it is better to use smaller cards in the interest of isolating corruption to fewer files/images. I recently purchased a 1D Mark II and have been toying with the idea of getting both an 8gig CF and SD card, then setting it up to record to both cards simultaneously. Would this protect me from corruption? What happens to write speed when the 1D Mark II is configured in this scenario? My thoughts are that I have a better chance of physically losing a card vs having a corruption and if this scenario of writing to both cards would protect me from that then it is a no brainer especially considering the current SanDisk rebates. One other question I have is if it is possible with current 1D models to write RAW to one card and jpeg to the other. I don't believe this is possible with the Mark II. The reason I ask is that I assist with another photographer on weddings and he wants nothing to do with RAW. That is all I want! Unfortunately, it is his media and I do not have to opportunity to separate the RAW from jpeg files first.

sorry to bring this from the dead, but i read somewhere that it can write raw on 1 card and jpg on the other card..is it possible?

Only the 2N can do the RAW/JPG split I believe. With the regular Mark IIs, they only write the same file to both cards.
