#2 would be great with a crop focusing on the boys playing basketball and take away a lot of the background noise

1 is interesting. It needs more shots to tell the story though.
2 is very, very good. Excellent street shot. You couldn't have posed them better unless you could've some how seen their faces but then the angle wouldn't be the same.
3 is boring, sorry.

4 doesn't work that well but I see what you were going for. It might to better as black and white to emphasize the diagonal lines and the colors aren't doing much for it.
5 is candid, which is good, but no emotion
6, the same as 3
hope that helps

Thanks your comments really help. I have quite a few of each situation however I can only use one shot. So far it looks like #2 is the best out of these so here is a bit of an edit on it, any better or am I missing the point here

That is a stronger edit of the boys but not necessarily a stronger photo or a better photo of the environment. I agree that you can lose some of the concrete in the foreground but I think the buildings and tree in the upper left were important in establishing the location and atmosphere making it something more than some kids playing ball.

So would you say something like this? I was not sure about the DOF so I left this one unedited in that respect. I quite like this one in the respect of all three are touching the ball and all three are airborne

Here is another take on #1 not sure if this tells a better story.

This is South Africa, right? I like the shot of the boys playing basketball. Agree with TheHoff though on the crop.

I like the last one Dave....
The others...men at work, not so much street stuff? The basketball shot is a keeper.

I like the second crop better. As far as the story, guess it depends on what story you are trying to tell. 3 different races playing basketball in South Africa tells one story. Machine gun toting law enforcement tells another.

I was thinking of giving the boys the tile of “Three’s Company “. So should I go with DOF or not?

Don't use that DOF. The only things in focus were their bums and shoes. If you reversed it so that the torso to ball was in focus that would work better than bums and feet (for me anyways... can't really say for everyone :))

I am finding it better without the DOF as well I must admit

Composition on #1 is great. But my eyes or monitor suggest it's a bit underexposed. Just my thoughts.
