View Full Version : Bride's Hair Prints Weird on Epson 2200 & R800

Sorry I can't post an example but I'll try to define "weird." Her hair is a dark blonde almost medium brown color. The output from both printers produces beautiful prints, but her hair looks like a solid mass almost; yet, on the screen, it (hair) is resolved. The hair is in focus and all of that. Used Canon 1D MKII and 24-70 lens with 550 flash (bounced). I don't know if it's a paper issue or what because I can see the hair fine on the CRT and BOTH Epson printers appear to not print the detail--really strange, because there's finer details in the print that appear fine.
I hope this describes the problem so it makes sense; a picture is worth a 1000 words. If this thread "flies," I'll post a sample after work tonight.
If anyone has seen this please let me know what you think.
Regards,
Dan

I've got an Epson 3000 printer that I use to print positive black and white images with... it's been modified so it prints on rolls of clear plastic film (for screenprinting purposes). But I've had a similar issue with some of the more fine-detailed things I've had to print. For my printer, and I'm wondering if it might be something similar for yours, I found that it was simply laying down too much ink on the film. In Photoshop I'm able to change the profiles of it (through page setup) and choose a profile that I know prints with less ink and it fixed my problems.
You said it prints fine in other areas, so I'm not sure if that's entirely it, though. If you haven't tried other kinds/brands of paper, I'd give something else a shot to see if that may be it as well.

What kind of paper are you using?
My photo printer is the ancient Epson 1270. Of course, the printer driver must be set for the correct paper type. However, virtually any kind of normal inkjet paper that I use will result in similar results to what you report. If I use any Epson Premium Luster or Glossy, then it is perfect.

I would like to know how well do you like your R800? I'm looking for a dyesub & inkjet.

I really like the R800--it's a great printer and so much faster than the 2200. I can crank out a few 8x10 images in about five minutes and the color looks great. The CD printer is fantastic and it's easy on ink too.
