did u use a tripod to take that bean pic?
usually they will chase you off if they see a tripod there.

nope no tripod. you can find the rules to shooting there on the Mpark website and even if you have a tripod you are still good. but i have heard that they run people out of there a lot.

Love 2 and 3 !
Thanks for sharing. I am a portrait photographer and have just recently started trying to get some decent urban stuff. I really find these interesting!
Good job!

Why aren't you allowed to take pictures of the "bean" ??

Lovin' shots from home..! I like #2 as well. First one is a bit noisey and some are little on the soft side. I would work a little bit on composition, but otherwise, nice job! :)

Really -why? I'm a bit curious, too... I was just there this past Christmas and I've seen people setting up with their tripods. Rule change already?!?!?

Why would they chase you away for using a tripod?
Never heard of that.

here you go guys, well if you plan on taking a bunch of pictures in M park might want to print this out in case they try to make you leave.

thanks, yeah I liked being up there and getting more urban, street stuff, but i also have not had the chance to do any portrait work and would really like to do some. Of course college keeps me pretty busy so i do what i can.
Thanks for all the comments

I dont remember how they justified it to me. But it happens a lot. Ive also had the police called for just carrying a tripod on the L platforms.

In Chicago I believe you need a license to take "professional" photos. I might be wrong but that's what I've heard from a wedding photographer that shoots night time wedding city shots.
Is it the compression or bad focus? These pictures look a bit hazy.
izatt82

most of the haze is fog and the fact that these are hand held.
yeah it was misting foggy and rainy the whole time i was there, but i went out any way.

Btw. when time of night did you go to the Bean? I've never been down there past 6pm so I would love to know when it clears up like that!!

I think it was 9 or 10 but i think since the weather was crappy that kept people inside. I think later this year i am going to take the train up and take some more. try to get some really clear photos.

Don't be too late, though. They kick everyone out after 10 pm I think...

yes, this is their justification.
any shot that the city deems as "professional" aka can be sold, they will want a specific permit for, and the way most of the city officials deem "professional" is if they see a tripod.
THis creates a lot of problems in touristy downtown areas as DSLRS are becoming more common and a lot of average tourists are sporting big cameras.

something about the pp is strange, the one with the river view.
I know that orange apartment building on the right, it just looks off to me
what adjustments did you make to the raw file? looks very saturated and contrasty, are the blacks up a lot?
still looks cool, just weird when you are used to seeing it all the time

I shot that jpeg. but i did bump up the contrast a bit and i can't remember what else i did. most of the time i really don't do to much PS just not my style for most of my shots. I will change little stuff, but thats about it. some pics i put on here are straight out of the camera I try to take the best photo i can with out having to touch it, of course that doesn't always work.

It's a damn shame what the "Land of the free" is becoming!
I've shot pics with a tripod all around the city and I've never been approached by the police.
If I did I might get put in jail for what my smart mouth might say! :o

I like the last one on the first page, really captures the mood.
I've never run into any problems while taking photos downtown. Never even knew about this "rule" they have, I thought only New York enforced that.

Yeah i am with him, that whole freedom of speech would get used if this happened. I thought and according to the M park website that anything more than a tripod ie strobes lights defusers stuff like that is considered a pro shoot and needs a permit.
