Yes, 5/8", about 16mm.

The light stands I just ordered come with a spigot and a (the afrikaans word will have to suffice) kappertjie for lights that aren't spigoted - basically a cylindrical adapter that bolts on to the main stem of the stand - in this is a hole and I think it'd be better me bolting this from the inside to my umbrella holder (standard tripod thread) than a spigot...that way I can threadlock the holder to the kappertjie
