#1's a good idea, nice colours, touchingly gentle expression, and all in all it works quite well. Only suggestion I could make is that another nice option would have been to see his eye through his fingers... possibly achievable if he held his hand say 5 cms in front of his face.

#2: again good. Maybe a touch soft on the front of the face and eyes? Sky's a big blown... always hard to shoot with back lighting and no flash fill. As you say, lighting's the challenge of the day....
