Ok, I took the advice of a couple of people on this message board, bought a brown teddy bear and a 2 yard piece of navy velour (wow what a great way to practice). Now, here's what I'm getting. The first shot is pretty much I think what I'm looking for. I think it worked out well. The second shot is what 90% of my shots ended up looking like...a tad underexposed. I was using the 28-105 at apertures ranging from 4.0 to 4.5 and a shutter speed of 1/60 in P mode. These shots were all handheld with a flash bracket. Any advice would be appreciated.

One more thing to note...I'm not terribly impressed with how sharp these images are coming out. I'm not using any filters...simply shooting the shot. I was using my flash bracket and at odd angle on my knees, so there is a chance I could have been swaying enough to throw the focus of just a tad as I snapped the shot. But, I am begining to be a tad worried about the sharpness of this lens. It really isn't what I was expecting (though I haven't done any focus tests, so who knows for sure).

W/out further ado, here are the shots:

Have you tried using a tripod and/or stopping down to f8 or more to increase sharpness ? Unfortunately, the 28-105 isn't the sharpest thing wide open!
