Didn't know what this one is called, but, it started to grow in the yard???

The background, it's a bunch of red verbena's, and the shot was taken outdoors, with natural light, and loads of wind. All comments/feeback is appreciated. I believe the exif is intact..

I really like the colors, including that "wormy" (don't have a clue what that means either). ;)

You shot that at f/8 with a great body, but on my monitor it seems soft.
Did you blur it in CS3? Just appears OOF.

But like I said, like the image, including the colors.

Thanks for the kind words, chauncey.

As for blurring in PS...no, didn't do much, except crop it. It was rather windy, so that may be motion blur, but there's a pretty thin DOF on the 100mm macro...this just happens to be where it landed. Center focus point, on the green bud in there, and the whole flower is about the size of a US Quarter, if that.

This is so beautiful with the colors! I don;t know the flower.perhaps some sort of Paradise species? I am not familiar with the purple blades..but it is stunning.

Thanks Flo...I appreciate the comments. I'm not sure what it is, either...just started growing, so, I let it be. Now there's a few, but, only one flowers. Even more weird...hehe.

Don't listen to anyone else - this is stunning and very well done. Period.

I haven't a clue what the flower is, but if this image was mine, I'd show it off too.

Wormy?

Thanks Glenn NK. Appreciate the comments.

Yeah, I don't get the word, either...I guess it has to do with the 'missing' areas of red...but then again, it's not a 'forced' background, it's a 'natural' one...so, one gets what one gets in nature.

inthedeck, I am even more impressed after hearing about the size of the flower.

Save that puppy and do something with it.

I keep all the RAW's. All the .tiff and .jpeg's get deleted. As for this one, I'll see if it gets accepted to a site, where I upload photo's to sell.

I do appreciate the comments, though. :o

Hehe...flo, I'll convert the whole raw to jpeg, when I get home. then you'll see what it 'actually' looks like. Let me do a search, and see if I can't find the name.

I've search google, for purple flowers, on purple stalks....nothing. I don't know where to look for the name anymore...hehe.

Ok I think i found out what it was called. I thought I saw the flower before but it looked alittle different. I think it's a purple heart. Here is a link I found. LINK (http://sliceoftheday.wordpress.com/2007/08/07/purple-heart-tradescantia-pallida/)

Thanks Tracey, you got it. That is it. :) A Purple Heart. Who'da thunk it?

Can't believe that something to pretty is considered a weed...hehe. " in many areas it is considered an invasive weed." Taken from the article you posted. I however, won't let it take over...nor will the other 'plants' that are out there. I guess a few purple hearts can stay.

Thanks again Tracey...without your first post, not many could ID it...so, thank to you, we have put a name to it.

I've read up quite a bit in a few minutes...some like it, some don't. Bottom line, it's hard to kill...so, I guess even a college kid could raise one of these...hehe. Umm...

Oh yeah that's another name for it. Inch plant, Purple heart, Purple queen, wandering jew (got no clue where that name come from) but I looked up inch plant and saw one in a pot. A flower shop I worked at had one of those now I know why I thought I saw it before.

Only mentioned it because thats what I thought it was originally.Too cold to grow outside here this time of the year!

It is a fabulous photo of a weed:)

Right on...now that we've satisfied the curiosity...I'm going to have to dig up some of the ones that are sprouting, and plant them near the edge of the lake...see how they do there...hehe. Beyond that, I'll keep em under control.

Since you're in a warmer climate, it's probably a wandering jew, in NY I can only grow them as a houseplant.

^^Interesting...I'll have to keep a close eye, so they don't take over in the flower beds. Other than that, though, I enjoyed the flowers, when they came up...so, no complaints here.
