has anyone found any problems with the firmware hack from Wasia that enables a lot of the functionality of the 10D hidden in the 300D? I know it voids the warrantee, but it adds some funtions that I'm interested in.

Here you go:

Works fine, I don't know if it voids the warranty or not, but it is easy enough to switch back to the factory software if the camera needs service.
I have run it for the past five months, no problems.

While I'm pretty sure you would like to hear from someone that has/is useing it.
The only reason I don't have it on mine yet, is I'm new to photography, I wanted to learn it as is, then add more/new functions. Then learn the new ones.
I found it all very confusing in the beginning.
I think I've read every thread on here about the hack dateing back to July. I've read web pages, the yahoo group on this hack....
I've yet to find anyone say it mucked up there camera.

I've been using it for 4 months now. I can't even tell it's there... no problems other than having some new features :D

Hack away: http://www.bahneman.com/liem/photos/tricks/digital-rebel-tricks.html
I had a Drebel for about three weeks. The hacks works fine, but there are some kludgy workarounds to get things to work right. However, I'm sure when you get used to pushing the right buttons it'll be just fine. IMHO it is worth the download, and people have sent their cameras to Canon for service with the hack installed and they said nothing. It's always easy to flash back too.

I'm using the hack for 5 months and find it very useful. I like very much the Single Shot and the MLU functions. The FEC can be useful too despite I'm not using it. Another very usiful functions is the possibility ti switch between RAW and different quality JPGs with the SET button without entering the MENU.
2 weeks ago I encountered a problem with my hacked 300d, but I cannot say if it is caused by the hack. The camera just stops to record RAW files, but was recording JPGs. After restarting the camera all started to work fine.
No other problems until the hack was installed. I strongly recommend it.

in the 300d forums at dpreview there are some problems, check there.
The problem currently at DPreview looks like it was caused by the guy turning off his camera manually during the update process. This is the only major problem I have heard of by using the Wasia hack. His camera is now dead.
So if you decide to use it make sure you have a fully charged battery and maybe turn off the auto shut off feature as a precaution and you should be good to go.

Someone on photo.net has also got a problem loading the hack:
"Help I just tried to update the firmware on my digital rebel and the screen just turned white I need advice quick. I put the firmware I downloaded on to my CF and put it into the camera and pressed Ok when it asked to update firmware and instead of the screen saying Checking Firmware it just went white. Somebody please help!"
"I'm afraid to do anything to it because it said not push buttons or anything while it was working but the battery is going to run out sometime I don't know if just unplugging the the battery will damage anything because I just tried to turn it off to no effect."

It never fails that when we get a firmware update that some idiot(s) do not read the instructions. The above two issues (and I never take anything to heart that I hear from DPR, aka Digital Photography Rumor-mill) are not related to the hack. That would have happened with a Canon firmware update.
Get the firmware hack, install it properly and you'll never look back.

I've had the hack on mine for a few months now with zero problems. The added features of Flash Exposure Compensation and setting the shutter at 1/200 sec. in Av mode w/Flash have been very useful to me.
I wish Canon wouldn't have wasted time/money paying a programmer to remove features the hardware was capable of. I would have thought the cheaper body construction and the smaller frame rate/buffer would have been enough to justify the price difference between the Rebel and the 10D, but they had to go cripple the camera at the same time.

I have hacked mine for four weeks now. No problems noticed so far. I am looking for instructions on using those hacked features - anyone know where I can get these instructions? Did a search but all I get is a list of features. Cheers.

This is VERY common practice. Especially in printers. Programming does cost money and no one will give it away for free.

i hacked my camera the first ten minutes it was out of the box. (i have a canon g3[same battery]) so that was no problem.
but yea, some interesting functions.
mirror lockup and iso 3200 just to name a few.
just read the website and you'll be ok.
oh yea, when updated, be sure AWB is on, and never to change languages after you've updated.
if you want other languages, change the language with the original firmware installed and then update the firmware.

I hacked my DRebel 30 min after I found I could do the FEC with that firmware (thanks to this site... of course!). I haven't had any problems

I knew about the language... but... why do you have to have AWB on??? I think I had it on when I upgraded... but don't remember reading that in he instructions...
