I am experienced owner of G1,G2(love it),G5 and 300D - now I am after one week of new G6.
---and I am still alive.. 8)
OK. - first minuss
1. silver body ( real 'night mare') I try to forget about it everytime to take my camera , and say to myself - pls wait only 5-7 months to black body,yet....

2.disapointed AF (at full zoom only, thanks God)at program - forget comfort of G2 - AUTO is much much better at G6.

3. no ring at the end of the standard lens ( they made it special to me - I simply HATE Canon constructors at this aspect - WHY they do this AGAIN and AGAIN..?!)

4.more complicated operations (G2- much much better)

5.no live histogram
6. USB 1 - why not 2 ??
7. plastic LCD body ( big mistake)

ok.
thats all.

and now.

I can forget all faults of G6 becouse of ONE THING.

ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING PICTURE QUALITY. - much better than my last 300D.

--probably much better than my former, legendary G2

I made more than 800 pictures during circa 8 days.

I think nothing better on the market than this camera.( if we are talking about compacts and few Dslrs)

-- I REALY dont know WHY so great pics quality even when cheap size is so little.??!!! - its AGAINST stereotypes !!!

ps. soory for my English.... :)

So the camera is silver, so what? Would black make it work better or do people think it makes them look like a "real" photographer because everyone knows only a "real" photographer with a black camera can take good photos. As for USB 2 i don’t care i use a USB 2 card reader which cost a whole 8 UK pounds.

People moan about the G6 lacking this or being made like that and then they end it with but the picture quality is stunning/outstanding/brilliant. That I cant work out.

Catcher,

Great post.. :)

I did the same thing when I got one of my recent Cameras.. listed why loved it.. and what I did NOT like...

I still love the camera.. but theres no harm in finding where improvements can be made either.

 You're supposed to critique the camera Before you buy it, and if it's still what you want, buy it and accept it for what it is.

First of all, i would like to say that G6 is the best camera i have ever posessed. It is a magnificient camera which takes superb pictures with WOW resolutions. No Doubts about it.

Praises apart... There are some shortcomings. I will be glad if canon addresses them in their next release.

Again, these are the shortcomings that i felt. Others may feel different.

Problems and The Soltions that i Expect:
Problem 1: LCD is almost unusable when viewed from different angles.
Solution: I am definitely happy with the large LCD. But not with its performance.

Problem 2: The switch gets on when i put my G6 in the bag. Obviously the lens tries to extend inside the bag which isnt a good sign.
Solution: Redesign of the On/Off Switch may be similar to G3/G5 coz i didnt have much of a problem with them

Problem 3: No Live Histogram - when most competitors have already implemented.
Solution: Live histogram shouldn't be a problem for canon experts in the next release may be.

Problem 4: Hand Grip protruding out too much
Solution: Hand Grip can be shortened to the height of the unextended lens maybe

Problem 5: ISO 200 and 400 are not very usable.
Solution: Atleast a clearer ISO 200 if not ISO 400.

Problem 6: Some are fine with Silver body. Some prefer Black body.
Solution: Cant we have a choice of 2 colors atleast.

PS: BLACK BODY: Its not for others to think that u r professional. Its for urself to have such a feeling. It feels that way because cameras have traditionally been that color.

 Thanks for the web sites Marie, I'll check them out.
I own a silver G3 and although I would have prefered black back when I bought it, I think the silver gives it a bit of class. What we have to do is encourage professional photographers to buy silver cameras and then everybody will want one.
