I really like the second one, although the subject matter leaves a bit to be desired.

How's your truck coming, by the way?

The lighting on the second is a little hot on the face, you seem to have lost some of the detail. Other than that the lighting seems to fill in very well. It's weird, but you look a lot like this freak that works in my office

I really like the second one. The first one almost does it for me, but not quite. I like the colors and its sharp but its a bit distracting and takes away from the subject (even though he's something good to look at! lol)..not liking the composition. The second one is great. Sharp, nice lighting and gives a sort of "rugged rebel" feel :D

props just for posting them, overall good stuff, small things like your exact alignment with the BG is causing slight distraction, lots of angles and lines behind you and would be fun to control in the framing to assist the image further...but without being behind the camera thats a toughie to work out...

i cant even take a photo of myself i like enough to show people, so props

i like the contrasts of the second pic, did you actually photograph yourself?

I like them, although the highlights on the second one are blown.

However, judging from your expression, you're not yet content with your lighting setup

Best regards,
Andy

thanks there smellie, i adjusted on that one so i may have done some of that after the shot.

KarinaB1970, i liked it also for the colors. thanks, so the comp isn't very good. it was real hard to get the 50mm to focus cause i couldn't the one place to stand that i'd always hit the center AF point. I agree and I think that's why i like the 2nd one cause it's somewhat "tough" looking.

blinking8s, thanks man. i see what you mean about the 1st and maybe setting up framing with some of the signs. to get a good one of one self, pretend like the camera isn't even there. i mean really really block it out of your head.

digitaleye, thanks. i cranked it up a bit to get that. and yes, the thinks we must sacrifies for the arts.

Andythaler, thanks hahah does it show?? hehe

I really like the first one. Except I think it would be a little better if the shirt you wore were a little brighter, like say a purple, dark green. The black almost gives off a "cut out" look for your shirt. Otherwise it's a great picture and it's just my meticulus eyes and opinion.

i need to get some non-dark shirts, i agree i think that shot would look better with a litgher shirt
