1st shots of Clara didn't go over to well but I am determined to get it right!
This is my semi patient granddaughter and I am still trying to capture her in natural light.
Many people have a distaste for B&W but her dark eyes suck me into filtered B&W.
Please any helpful critique beginning with the on switch would be appreciated.

I like the first one. Second one is too red IMO.

I agree Rick and the worst thing is I can see my flaws but trying to fix them is leaving dumbfounded..
Think Ansel did B&W cause he sucked at PS:)
Next 2 are decent (IMO) on comp but lack tack sharp focus..
I am really feeling slow right now..

Same comment I made in another thread: I have Lightroom, but I believe the adjustments are the same in CS; turn down the Saturation and raise the Vibrance. This will increase all the colours, but won't turn the skin orange/red.

I have Elements 6 too, it has the same controls as does CS or LR (perhaps with minor variations).

In the Lightroom book by Martin Evening, he makes this very clear about using Vibrance for skin tones rather than Saturation, so the same remarks should apply to Elements 6.

That last photo is truly amazing. Great capture of emotion and "the look".

Hi Mike,

The two B&Ws and the last 2 pictures are all superb (i.e. #1/3/5/6). #5/6 seem a touch blown on the left...? If you haven't already done all you can to recover the highlights, then it'd be a shame not to try again. Shooting RAW helps a bit in such situations. And #5 obviously would have benefitted from more DOF and/or focusing back enough to get the other eye. The other two don't grab me, though #2 comes close - maybe it's focus that's lacking. A better photographer than I might be able to suggest some parameters for use of flash fill, but I think you've done very well....

Cheers, Tony

In PSE-6 you can desaturate the Reds alone and fix #2 & #4. She has some precious expressions and neat eyes. Nice captures.
