hey everyone ( I guess this doubles as my intro thread). I've joined a few photo forums but haven't posted much at any, so I'm trying to change that as I become more serious with photography. I still have a ways to go (I'm in high school) but I think this forum will really help me.

So anyway, onto the photo. This is my grandmother a few months ago when my family and I went to chop down a Christmas tree on a tree farm. This happens to be my favorite photo I have ever taken.

Very well exposed and composed.

On a duplicate layer:
I steepened the curves in the R, G, and B channels in the pixel range of the face. I did some luminosity blending with the green channel to bring out more detail in the face. The whole effect was a little strong so I backed off the final result by reducing opacity of the working layer to 50%.

Crop to 8x10 ratio. Print, Frame & Hang.

You can never go wrong with pictures of your Grandma :)

I like what you did. Her nose looks a bit discolored to me, but then again, I've been on the computer for 2 hours and my eyes are going crazy. My original is better of course :-P

Now can you either of you two lower the brightness of the highlight to the left of her eyes?

That's the only thing that bothers me.

If I had the original RAW file I could likely do it by dropping luminance in this area in LIghtroom (it's likely just high level green and yellow).

I tried it with the JPEG but part of the area is completly blown out. Will require heavier surgery.

The surgery was a complete success, and the patient is doing just fine.
