View Full Version : Strange Bug in Digital Rebel – camera reboots itself

I bought this camera yesterday. "Played" with it for a while, trying to switch between different modes, turning flash on/off, changing WB settings.

It worked excellent. But on two separate occasions it rebooted itself. Once after pressing a WB button, second time when I switched from Auto to Manual, I suddenly saw "EOS" letters on the screen, like I just turned it off and then on again. First time the problem just went away. Second time, I had a problem turning it on. Each time pressing any button (like menu or WB) would work like "Off" knob.

I've turned the camera off, removed and inserted back a battery back. I didn't see it happening again since than.
I wonder, is it some known bug in Rebel's firmware or hardware, or I have to bring it back to the store for exchange?

Thanks in advance.

If it were me, I'd take it back to the store. I can think of no good reason for your camera to reboot itself unless it looses electrical contact with the battery momentarily.

rich..

Ditto. Take it back and replace it with a new one.

Likewise.. unless....

Is it possible that the camera had simply "auto powered-off" ?

Just a thought.. it may not have re-booted.. but had self timed into "sleep" mode before you made the changes? Thus what you saw may have been "waking up" as opposed to "re-booting"

A long shot I know.. but a possibility.

Just a thought.

It was actually happening in response on a button press. So it does not seam like a shut off timer.

I guess, I will just have to exchange the camera.

Thanks.
